Circus Olympia’s new web page includes a nice new web store where it is possible to buy a wide range of merchandises. It includes T-shirts, programs and videos from Olympia’s performances from the last ten years. For all collectors or people who just want to memorise a nice performance it is very nice to have this opportunity. Circus Scandinavia bought all the videos for having a closer look.

First of all Olympia was very fast. Only four days after we asked for the videos we received the package in Denmark. As a service the videos was followed with the matching souvenir program. It is maybe to compensate for the missing cover information. The only information on the cover boxes was the fronts from the souvenir programs. Absolutely no other information. No information about Olympia and where, when and who made the tapes. So if you want to have the tapes to look nice on your shelf, you have to make a nice cover by your self. It is of cause possible. But anyway the most important thing in this case is the what’s on the tape. I was not disappointed, tapes from the old days in Circus Olympia and with Henrika Bengtsson with her dogs already a nice act 10 years ago. Furthermore there is Director Herbert Bengtsson with his lovely and absolute well-trained horses, Camels. Lamas and a handful of other animals. If you play the tapes after each other as I did, those acts with Henrika and Herbertt gets a little boring but if you take a look on a single tape, it is always a pleasure to look of those two individuals.

The covers could have been nicer

There are of cause a lot of artists on these 12 tapes and it would be impossible to write about every single act, but after looking through all 12 tapes it is clear that the average standard is okay. There are a lot of artists from Russia and other old eastern states and it isn’t all entrées there are top class acts. Most of the acts are absolutely very nice but in my opinion they need a absolutely top entrée. Yes I know that Bengt and Henrika are very very good trainers, so good that they deliver horse, dogs and Camel acts to other circus in Europe. In the 2002 season there was horses in Merano(Norway) and Camels in Arena (Denmark) all trained by Herbert Bengtsson.

The Quality on the tapes is okay.

So please, if you are a collector, you have a great opportunity to get a nice range of videos, shirts and much more from a small but very nice circus. Don’t expect world class artists all the way through the tapes but a very nice show.

It would be very nice, if there was more circus through out Europe who would start up a Internet web store. A few have already started up a store and realized that the Internet is the future in many cases. I’m aware that it isn’t good business for circus but it would be a very nice service to their costumers.
