Circus Baldoni winter quarter.

One hour drive from outside Copenhagen you find a tiny little town called Tureby. There are only a few houses and absolutely no sign from any circus. But behind a lager group of trees there is a little road leading up to circus Baldonis head quarter. What a surprise., because here was hidden a huge farm and a very large house. Behind those walls live Circus Director René Marvin and his Wife Thessa, from the end of the circus Season in September until the snow has diapered in March.

The main house where René and Thessa lives.

Circus Baldoni is a circus without animals so the only animal there was here were René’s dog and my own dog, playing in front of the house. A beautiful place with a fantastic sight over the fields and the trees fighting, for the last leafs still hanging on the branches.

Everything is looking very peaceful but behind the walls everybody works hard for the forth-coming tour for Faeroe Islands. New costumes for Thessa is hanging almost ready for the tour made with lots of nice colours and a pair of new clown shoes are adapted to fit normally feet. The Carpenter works hard to put the last paint on a new ring, there second because this year there will be two Baldoni units on the winter tour, one in the western part of Denmark and one unit in the eastern part. This tour starts after the tour on Faeroe Island but everything must be ready before leaving for the tour in the far north.

Costumes are made for the next tour.

Lots of cars are parked inside the buildings and a mechanic checks all the circus cars and wagons so they will be ready for the next tour. An old fashion military command car is being restored and will be used next season for pulling up circus cars hanging in the mud. After the mechanical work, the car will be painted in the red circus Baldoni colour. The new tent is packed in one of the big halls, together with sticks, wires and poles and besides is the old tent, witch is for sale if anyone should be interested

An old milytary car are beung restored for the next season.

After the tour around on the farm I was invited to a cup of coffee and bread with cheese. We were of cause talking about circus and René showed me some videos with artists signed for the next season I can tell you that it looks very good but I promised René not to release the names on the artists.

Here works the mechanic making cars and waggons ready for next season

René told me about the performance for the next summer his considerations how to adapt acts to each other and lots of other thoughts concerning the 2004 summer tour in Denmark.

Thanks for a nice day – Kenneth and Nanna.
