How did the circus artists manage to survive under world war II
Circus Scandinavia are looking 58 years back
Applause – Flowers – Spotlight – sparkling clothes that’s the life for an artist but under the surface is often hard just to survive. Under the Second World War it was even harder. Borders was closed and it was not easy at all to find any kind of engagements.
Many of the artists did have problems to even find foot for them self and it was even harder to find anything for their animals.
Here is a few pictures from the war and small stories from the artists.

Slap wire artist Carlo Andrews. His salary is 50 Danish kroner for 8 min. ( 9 Euro) But there it is not possible to find any work His monthly rent for his arpartment: 40 kroner ( 9 Euro) |

Wiola and BuBu did travel around the world, but thats
not possible anymore. Their salary is 300 Danish kroner for one
performance ( 35 Euro). Now they had to move togheter to keep the warm at
night, because they have nothing to do so there is absolutely no money. We
survives because there is a lot of nice people around us, who gives BuBu
fruit and bread.

| 3 Gassettis, ekvilibrist act survives on their salarys for 4 months work this year. Before the war they was on a 8 year world tour. Now they live in Copenhagen in a 3 room arpartment. One of the artists in 3 Gassetties Julius Matz is German, so it's very hard for him to live in Denmark these days. |

Miss Edelton are working hard every day but without getting
paid, because their is no work for her either. The same problem got her
husband, the famous Danish clown Toto Brasso.
They live in a small apartment in Copenhagen and the rent is 40 kroner a month. (5 Euro). |
