Accident in Circus Arnardo

3 young people were heard yesterday in Circus Arnardo –Norway. The accident happened when one of the plates on the gradin was broken down and the spectators felt 2 metres down to the ground. It is very rare that something like that happens and circus Arnardo will go through all the plates to prevent another accident.

Clowns in Arena 2004

The clowns in Circus Arena Denmark in 2004 season will be the two fantastic brothers – Rossyan. The two brothers Yan and Hector from France are at the moment on the second tour with Circus Maximum in Sweden. There shouldn’t be a third season in Sweden because they will stay in the ring for circus Arena in March.

Rossyans are very famous clowns both as reprise and entrée clowns. They can play almost all instruments and do it extremely well.

I wrote a few days ago, that Casselys Elephants would be in Arena next year. It is correct that Cassely is signed by Benny Berdino but not to circus Arena. Cassely will perform in Circus Skratt in Sweden and later in Circus BonBon in Denmark. Benny Berdino owns Circus Arena in DK. Circus Skratt in Sweden and that’s the reason for the confusion. The Elephant act in Arena in the 2004 season will be once again Sonny Frankello.

Rivelinos

The Spanish clown Trio Rivelinos, at the moment with Circus Arena are going to Circus Americano in Italy after the 2003 summer season in Denmark. Rivelinos will stay with Americano for one year.

Dannebrog Camels out of the grass

The local government in Copenhagen will not allow circus Dannebrogs camels on the lawn in the park. The government says that the camels destroyed a part of the grass last year when Dannebrog was in Copenhagen. Circus Dannebrog has offered to pay for the grass but has been refused.

Diablo artists in Circus Benneweis are going to do a two months engagement in STAR CLUB in Kassel. Later this year they will be apart of Hailbrommer Christmas circus.

Casselys elephants

Rene Cassely is signed to circus Arena for the next season. Casselys has been in Circus Arena before. We hope of cause that it is still legal to perform elephants in Danish circus in 2004. Rene is at the moment on tour with circus Buch Roland in Germany.

Louis Knie in Circus Maximum

Rumours say that Louis Knie jun. is engaged in The Swedish circus Maximum for the 2004 summer season. Louis Knie performs with Horses, Elephants and exotic animals.  

Primiere for Circus Dannebrog and Benneweis in Copenhagen

Two of the major circuses in Denmark have both premieres in Copenhagen tomorrow August 29^th. Circus Benneweis will stay at Bellahoej until September 7^th. And this date will be the end for the 2003 seasson.

Circus Dannebrog will stay until September 21st. and will be on Trianglen in the center of Copenhagen. The sea lion acts in Dannebrog and Benneweis are presented by two brothers with engagements in two different circus. So now is the chance for the Pedersen family to visit each other.

Both Circus are in a high international quality , so Circus Scandinavia recommend a visit.

Martyne Chabry

Martyne Chabry – Daughter of the famous Belgian clown Toto Chabry has ended her season with circus Moria Orfei in Italy. But she is not going on holiday because her next contract starts September 9^th. in Boblinger circus festival. After Boblinger she´s going to circus Conelli in Schweiz.

A new web page about circus Scott in Sweden will soon be opened on the net. The Webmaster is Anders Troedsson from Sweden and I was aloud to have a peek on his very nice work.. There will be history about Scott and some pictures. News, people behind Scott and much more. The layout is nice and we are all looking forward to the opening of the page. This page must be the first private web in Scandinavia concerning a single circus. Keep up the good work and I hope we will see more of those kind pages in the future.

To all circus and circus friends in the world.

Det er med stor beklagelse, at såkaldt dyre eksperter har anbefalet og stoppe dispensationer for bla. Elefanter og søløver i Danske cirkus. Begrundelsen skulle være de store afstande dyrene dagligt skal transporteres og de gener og ulemper dyrene pålægges ved disse transporter.

Det er fuldstændigt absurd, at tænke på hvordan vi behandler dyr i mad industrien, burhøns, tremmekalve mm. samt "lovlige" transporter over enorme afstande for slagtekvæg og heste. Det er desværre den almindelige opfattelse (igen), at cirkus ikke er andet en end flok "vilde" der gør alt for cirkus dyr skal have det skidt. Dette er simpelthen ikke korrekt. Elefanter og Søløver har ofte meget bedre forhold, sammenlignet den måde industri dyr bliver behandlet.

De afstande cirkus dyr transporteres i Danmark er meget små, ofte er det under 20 km. Dagligt. Der gøres alt fra cirkus side for, at minimere de gener der er for dyrene ved disse transporter. Stalde er altid det første der stilles op for, at begrænse tiden i bilerne.

Det er korrekt, at det ikke er optimalt liv som cirkus dyr men disse dyr har absolut en mission. Da jeg i sin tid arbejdede på Danmarks Akvarium sagde den daværende direktør og direktør i Verdens natur fonden – Arne Schøitz, at fugle i bur havde den mission, at de skabte en interesse for dyr som var ubetalelig for deres frie brødre. Et sådant synspunkt kan direkte overføres til cirkus, hvor der absolut skabes interesse for dyr og deres levesteder. Hvis ikke vi ser dyrene i virkeligheden, vil vi på sigt miste forholdet til disse dyr.

Transport og træning af f.eks. Rideheste er langt over hvad der er acceptabelt – Her er trænings metoder ofte meget kontante og langt fra de metoder man bruger i cirkus, hvor man for længst har indført belønning og ros. Transport af rideheste er ofte meget lange afstande til stævner i ind og udland. Antallet af konkurrence heste og transporter overstiger i denne branche er langt mere omfattende end i cirkus. Problemet med lovgivning på konkurrence heste –både trænings metoder og transport, er her vil det blive en indgriben i det bedre borgerskabs fritidsinteresser.

Der findes ikke ret mange elefanter i fangenskab i Europa sammenlagt ca. 6-800 individer. (Zoo og Cirkus). Dette tal er kraftigt faldende, da det er meget vanskeligt med parringer i fangenskab, grundet han elefantens temperament. Da det ikke mere er muligt, at købe elefanter vil optrædende elefanter være væk fra cirkus om ca. 50 år. Derfor er der allerede nu, en stor mangel på elefant numre i hele Europa. Dette betyder, at hvis man stopper med dispensationer for disse dyr, vil disse elefanter øjeblikkeligt blive engageret i andre lande f.eks. Tyskland hvor transporttiden er langt mere omfattende end i Danmark. Resultatet med et forbud vil altså umiddelbart ikke være til dyrets bedste.

Langt bedre for alle parter ville være, at der blev udarbejdet nogle regler om transport længde, størrelse af bure mm. Dette skulle gøres i fællesskab med cirkus, Zoologiskehaver, hestesporten , slagtetransport, æg fabrikanter og justitsministerium. Jeg er sikker på, at dette ikke ville være et problem for nogle Danske cirkus, da de allerede har en langt højere standard end de fleste andre kommercielle foretagender i Danmark.

Elephants and Sea lions out of circus.

So called animal specialists, pointed out of the Danish government, has recommended, that elephants and sea lions shall be banned in circus. The reason is the transportation over long distances every day should harm the animals. Circus Benneweis owned by Diana Benneweis agree with the "Specialists" and Circus Dannebrog, Circus Arena – says that it is a stupid idea. The funny part of this suggestion is that horses are not mentioned but the problem here would be that all the nice riding horses used in competitions would be in danger in such a law proposal and that would harm people outside circus.

Spindlers Elephants in Circus Benneweis 2003. Diana Benneweis think it should be illegal but they perform in Benneweis anyway.

This proposal is absolute out of control, when you at the same time can see animals transportations through Europe, with animals without foot or water. The way the foot industry threats the animals with small caves and stables should be banned because that is cruel.

Kim Kenneth –Illusionist from Denmark with an international career and in the moment on tour with circus Althoff-Jacobi in Austria, won a price as the best act in Austria this year.

Circus Olympias Tinker horses.

Herbert Bengtsson performed his own Tinker horses in the start of this season. From August the first the horses are travelling with circus Scott –performed by Jimmi Johansson. Instead is Herbert Bengtsson performing with his New forest horses. At the moment is Herberts horses performing in circus Agora Norway – 6 white horses performed by Jan Ketil. 6 brown horses in circus Maximum performed by Henrika and Herberts daughter –Jesicca. 6 Tinker horses in circus Scott. Futhermore there is 6 Camels in circus Finlandia performed by Miroslaw Maternik.

Clown Festival in BonBon.

Clown festival in BonBon land (Amusmentpark outside Copenhagen) in all the weekends in August. So if you want to be entertained of the world famous clowns as Revelinos(Los Sittos) you have the chance here. Futhermore there will be Lars Larna – clown in Circus Arena and Soren Arli from the small but very nice Circus Arli.

Circus Baldoni

Circus Baldomi in Denmark reports to circus Scandinavia that their second season is just fantastic. René (Director) says that they have sold almost double amount of tickets compared to last year at the same time.

Artist accident.

It is very sad to announce that the circus Artist Eva Garcia is dead after an accident yesterday in England. All the thoughts goes from circus Scandinavia to Eva and her family.

Sealion baby born in circus Dannebrog.

A small sea lion baby was born a few days ago in the Danish circus Dannebrog . The owner and sea lion trainer Hans Christian Pedersen are this year on tour with circus Dannebrog in Denmark. His brother Steven Pedersen are touring with a similar show but are with the Danish circus Benneweis.

New circus Place.

When circus Arena tomorrow enters their circus place in Horsholm, north of Copenhagen, it is not where they use to be. Of some unknown reason the circus place are moved to be besides the swimming arena. Circus Benneweis who is coming later this month will be by the sports arena to. Malte Knapp.

The 30 years old Swedish monocycle artist will perform on Liseberg for the last time tonight. Malthe Knapp did start the season with Circus Agora in Norway in the spring but had to leave for an old contract with the amusement park in Gothenburg (Sweden). But after tonight Malte Knapp will be back in Circus Agora for the next two months.

Very nice reviews for circus Scott with premiere yesterday in Gavle. Around 2000 spectators saw the premiere yesterday in a very hot tent. Circus Scandinavia will come back in a few days with a full article about the artists in Circus Scott.

Serious accident in Circus BonBon.

Diorio rider crashes

Yesterday - Monday July 28^th. There was a serious accident in Circus BonBon -Denmark. In the very dangerous death globe motorcycle act  went wrong when one of the three bikers  crashed. The biker was driven to the nearest hospital where he was checked and getting a few stitches. The rider will be back in a few days and until he is back the last two bikers will do the show alone. It isn’t the first time accidents happen with this motorcycle act. Last year the second unit from Diorio crashed under a performance in the Danish Circus Arena. Those guys has been very lucky.

Martyne Chabri.

Daughter of the world famous Belgian clown Toto Chabri are at the moment on a short break from Circus Moira Orfei in Italy. The break is for one month because she has an contract with Star club in Kassel. Martyne continues her tour with Moira in August but only for one more month because the contract ends August 31st.

Circus Raluy tour.

The histrical circus Raluy adventure in Norway is over. Lots of trouble with the Norwegian authorities should be the reason for, that Raluy gave up the rest of the tour. Their wagons did not have the legal standard for Norwegian roads and the police orderd police escort if Raluy should drive between the towns. Raluy didn´t follow the law for hanging up posters either. It can be discussed about the law are fair or not but if the Norwegian circus had to follow those laws – Raluy had to do the same.

Boblinger circus Festival

Lots of top artists in the Boblinger Circus Festival from October 2nd until 12th. From circus Arenas 2003 performance there will be two acts represented. Ingo Stiebner and his marbles sea lions and the absolutely magnificent spring board troupe Catana. Fore more information about the Festival go to their webpage.

Circus Raluy gets police escort

on the Norwegian roads.

Lots of trouble for circus Raluy (Spain) in Norway. The Norwegian police wouldn’t let the old historical circus wagons drive alone the Norwegian roads, because the lack of brakes on many of the wagons. This time circus Raluy had to drive more than one time between the cities because the police wouldn’t let them drive with more than one trailer at the time. It wasn’t the first time in Norway that the police escort Raluy but this time it wasn’t for free because they had to pay for the escort.

Voltige.

The name of the performance in Cirque D´hiver from October 22nd 2003 will be Voltige. Lots of Artists from this season in Scandinavian circus will be a part of the performance. From Circus Arena there will be the springboard troupe Catana. From Circus Benneweis the well-known Italian clown Fumagalli will be there and Glen Nicolodi and his dog will show of his fantastic handstand acrobatics. From Circus Maximum in Sweden it will be the musical clown duo Rossyans who represents Scandinavia. Another well known artist is Shirley Dean the fantastic female juggler.

Prince Nicolai in Circus Arena.

Circus Arena is on the moment performing in the Garden of the royal Danish family. The tent are placed in the garden of the Carstle " Schakenborg" in the south of Jylland. The 3 years old Prins Nicolai was of cause in circus together with his mom Princess Alexander and a friend. All the money from the performance goes to kids with cancer and it is the third time this year that Arena gives away a performance to charity. The whole show was recorded and will be broadcasted later this year.

Circus Agora

Circus Agora from Norway has reconstructed their homepage. The page was closed a few month ago but now reopened. Circus Scandinivaia will try to buy some of their merchandise to look closer to the service and we will keep an eye on the updates to see what happens in Norway.

The swedish owner of the great circus Maximum Mr. Bengt Kallquist did have a circus before. The first circus was circus Sol (Circus Sun) with an old military tent with room for 8 spectators. The next circus was named Minimum and at last the name was changed for Maximum.

Sick horse

At the moment there are 5 Friser horses performing with Nadia Kroplin in Circus BonBon. Normaly there should be 6. One of the horses got foreskin inflammation and can’t work at the moment. So take it easy female horses you don’t have to keep an eye on 6 horses at the moment.

The Danish magician and magic dealer from Horsens open a new store in Copenhagen. Many magicians from Scandinavia know Pegani and he exports magic to most of the Scandinavian countries. The new store, like the one in Horsens, will only have one opening day a week. Tino Rivero

Former circus artist, former circus friend now painter. Are at the moment working hard to paint his pictures in the Circus Building in Copenhagen. It is extremely sad to read that so called circus friends works for Wallmanns saloons in the name of fast money and fame. No we didn’t see the so called circus friends or heard them  in case of the circus place in Copenhagen either. Yes it seems that the circus place will be saved but it isn’t the work of those so called circus friends

Eller kanskje jeg heller skulle si: Kondolerer! Her velger man å overlate en bygning av stor kulturhistorisk verdi – Københavns Cirkusbygning – til et svensk restaurantkonsern, Wallmans Salonger. Vekk med alle minner, alle dufter fra storhetstiden i skandinavisk cirkuskunst, inn med biff, rødvin og andre "lekkerier" for gane og mage. Jeg gråter innvendig.

Jeg vet at redaktøren av denne webside ikke liker rykter og baksnakkelser, men vet egentlig dere kjære, blide dansker hva dere får? Hva som vil skje med den ærverdige bygningen?

La meg fortelle hva som skjedde her i Oslo – i en annen ærverdig bygning med historisk brus i veggene: (Vår vakre cirkusbygning ble dessverre jevnet med jorden før siste krig).

På slutten av 1970-tallet kjøpte en meget dyktig italiensk restaurantmann, Gino Valente, de historiske mursteinsbygningene ved Akerselven, midt i Oslo sentrum. Dette var det tidligere Hjula Veveri, bygninger som huset spinderier og veverier på slutten av 1800-tallet og frem til 1920-årene. De fleste ansatte var kvinner – og det var rom nok til mange menneskelige tragedier og litt livslykke iblant. Bygningene, omgivelsene og livet rundt står sentralt i forfatteren Oscar Braatens produksjon, med teaterstykker som "Den store Barnedåpen", "Ungen" osv. Bygningene og miljøet rundt står også sentralt i den norske arbeiderbevegelses historie.

Dessverre forfalt bygningene i samme tempo som den alminnelige norske velferden økte og denne type industri ble lagt ned. (Dette siste skal vi kanskje være glade for).

Med støtte fra Riksantikvaren gikk den før nevnte italiener i gang. Pietetsfullt restaurerte han bygningsmassen, og skapte den om til en stor restaurant med særpreg. Han beholdt mange av de små "avlukker" (avdelinger) – det ble investert i fotokunst fra Hjula Veveris glanstid på veggene, elven med fossefallet utenfor ble rensket opp og lyssatt – det ble en historisk idyll.

Men dessverre også et mareritt for vår italienske venn. (Les: Økonomiske problemer, hjerteinfarkt m.v.)

En periode ble hovedrestauranten omgjort til TV-studio. Fortsatt satt historien i veggene.

Så overtok Wallmanns!

Jeg er ingen flittig restaurantgjest – kanskje dette er grunnen til at jeg reagerte så sterkt da jeg for et år siden fikk mitt første, og hittil eneste, gjensyn med de historiske bygningene.

Borte var atmosfæren. Borte var historien. Borte var bildene fra en svunnen tid. De tidligere intime "avlukkene" er gjort om til sittegrupper for bargjester. Med moderne, vonde stoler. I hovedlokalet var det blitt brede "benkerader" med plass til bord og spisegjester. Servitørene fløy frem og tilbake og skulle liksom være "artister" når det var underholdning fra scenen.

Og hvilken underholdning!

Joda, der var sang, dans – på et helt amatørmessig plan. Der var tryllekunstner, buktaler og jonglør – ingen av disse hadde fått jobb i selv det aller minste skandinaviske sirkus!!!! At maten var kald når vi endelig fikk potetene servert gjorde ikke så mye – jeg betalte jo ikke selv. Men jeg gremmet meg den hele aften over at etablissementet presterte å kalle "prestasjonene" fra scenen for cirkusunderholdning!

Og jeg forlot selskapet så snart jeg kunne av høflighetshensyn overfor mine kolleger - og gikk hjem. Desillusjonert.

(Fra kl. 19.30 – kl. 22.00 var mer enn nok for meg).

Det må da være en måte å redde denne vakre bygningen på? Om det ikke gives liv for fortsatt cirkusdrift, eller gjestespill, så må det da være mulig å få gjort noe annet. Hva med Cirkus-Museum?

Et Cirkus Arkiv? Cirkus i Danmark har langt sterkere tradisjoner og historie bak seg enn hva vi har her i Norge. Er man ikke interessert i å ta vare på disse kulturhistoriske minnene? Kunne danske cirkus-direksjoner kanskje være med – sammen med den danske stat – på å bevare disse unike minnene på det sted de virkelig hører hjemme – i "Bygningen"…

The German circus Roncalli is going Classic. This time not with their circus but a combination of circus and classical music. In the concert hall in Dorthmund, Circus Roncalli and the international Dorthmund Philharmonic will perform the classic concert " The four seasons" combined with circus artists. 5 Concerts in Dortmund. Circus Scott premiere

Princess Alexandre of Denmark

Princess Alexander will be among the spectators when Circus Arena are given away a performance to kids with Cancer. It is the second time that circus Arena gives away a performance to charity. This time the performance will be on the Schackenborg Castle of the Royal Danish Prince and the princess. The Danish national television will record the performance and broadcast the show later this year. The show will be June 24^th at 7 o’clock.

Circo Raluy

Circus Raluy have trouble in Oslo. The trip from Luxemburg to Oslo was paid by the Spanish embassy in Oslo but they still have to live by the income. Somebody hasn’t told Raluy that most Norwegian circus only performs in the cities for one day and then moving on to the next. There are absolutely not spectators enough for a one-month visit. The plane is that Raluy will travel to Bergen after the Oslo visit.

Winner of a Circus performance

Miss Anette Holm from Denmark was a winner of a whole circus performance. She won a competition where the reward was a complete performance by the Danish circus Charlie, including 450 tickets. She’s a teacher so now she has invited all the children from the school in circus.

Fight between Roncalli and Flic-Flac

It is not only in Scandinavia there is trouble between circus. In Germany Circus Roncalli and circus Flic Flac are at the moment fighting each other. The reason is that they are both in Koln and there aren’t space for posters too both circus.

Very nice circus fan web from Portugal has been added to the Link page. For those who immediately claim that they can’t read Portuguese I can tell yon that the page is in English too. It is a very informative page for collectors or for people who just want to know something about Portuguese circus. So if you want more information about artists like duo Manducas (circus Krone this summer) or The great clowns Marianis seen last year in Circus Dannebrog and this year in circus Pinder in France.

Circus Arena trouble

Circus Arena did have some trouble in Aarhus with younger kids who didn’t know how to behave. The kids were trying to get into the circus for free and couldn’t find out, to follow normal behaviour. The circus place in Aarhus is not the normal place but in another neighbourhood where there sometimes can be some trouble. Arena are moving to the old place next year.

Concert for kids with cancer

This evening circus Arenas tent is used to a concert where the money goes to kids with cancer. Lots of well-known Danish musicians and singers give one night without any fee to this project. From Circus Arena will director Benny Berdino sing a few songs and the musical Clowns Los Sittos (Revilinos) will play too. The ticket price is only 100 hundred Danish Crowns (12 Euro).

New law for animals

A new law for animals in Sweden from July the first. The animals had to be treated by educated people. Only veterinarians can take an animals life. Pregnant animals may not perform in the last third of the pregnancy without permission from a veterinary. You may not force an animal to do tricks there isn’t physical natural for the animal.

A circus in Pakistan was Saturday put on fire by Islamic fundamentalists. Hundreds of people were hurt when the religious group attacked circus. The group means that circus is a violation against Islam.

The winner in the competition "The circus Princess" in Sweden is Maria Juana Jimenez from Germany. Maria is the 9^th. Circus princess, a competition with female artists only. The first price is worth 100 thousand Swedish crowns (12 thousand Euro). Maria did two acts – one in Solo trapeze and a slack wire act.

The illusionist Sigfred and Roy

The world famous illusionist couple Sigfred and Roy has decided the names for their 3 tigers. The names are chosen from 10 thousand suggestions. The chosen names are Akasha,Gandara and Kuuma.

Juggling Convention

From june 6th to June 9th there will be a Nordic juggling Convention in Odense – Denmark. This is the 19^th convention and as the earlier years there will be competitions, Workshops and it is possible to buy juggling books and other merchandise

New website for Antoschka.

Lots of new web pages for circus artists are coming up these days. So many them it would be impossible to review them all. One of the bran new pages is from the Russian female star clown Antoschka. Antoschka is educated in the Moscow statecircus and called her the queen of clowns. She is of cause very funny but her skills as an acrobat, equilibrist are fabulous too. Last time Antoschka was in Scandinavia was in the 2001 Benneweis summer tour were she was a part of the girl only performance called SuperGirls. Here is the link

Cirque du soleil are coming to New york with their new production Varekai. It is the first time in three years Soleil are in New york. After the New York days they will continue to Chicago, Los Angeles, Pomona and Costa Mesa.

Rolling Stones in Circus

One of the world greatest rock´n roll bands – The Rolling Stones wished themselves a concert with the old club atmosphere. Their choice was of cause the Krone circus building in Munich. The concert was sold out in a few minutes and the same was the result for the other planned shows in Munich on the Olympia stadium. It is not the first time that Stones visit the old Circus Building in Germany last time was in 1965.

Royal visit at Circus Moira Orfei

On 22 May at Circo Moira Orfei (in the town of San Remo) there have been very important guests: the whole Royal Family of Monte Carlo (with Prince Ranieri III, Prince Albert and Princesses Staphanie) and the whole staff of the circus festival (Mr. Urs Pilz, Mr. Patrick Hurdequin, Dr. Alain Frere,...).

They watched the show and the circus was full. Public was very hot and happy for this event .

Probably some of the acts of Moira Orfei will take part to the next Monte Carlo circus festival.

Restaurant – Brasseri Belli

In Arhus Denmark is there a restaurant called Brasseri Belli – after one of the greatest circus in Scandinavia Circus Belli. Circus Belli closed there business in 1953 and the founder of Circus Belli Metha bellis great grand child named her restaurant Belli. In the restaurant there is a nice atmosphere with lots of posters from the old circus. The food in the resturant is very nice and circus Scandinavia recommend a visit. The very famous reprise clown André is at the moment on tour with circus Circus Knie in Austria. Next year it will be the French people who would have the pleasure because André has already signed a contract with circus Arlette Gruss. It will be the second time in France because André was there in the 2002 season to.

The Jasters.

New link on the artist link page are the Jasters – Crossbows and knife act from Italy. Seen in Scandinavia in 1999 where they were on tour with the Norwegian circus Arnardo. Elena Busnelli and Giacomo Sterza –(The Jasters) are at the moment on tour in Italy with circus Moira Orfei. When Moira season ends in the early 2004 they are signed to the German Circus Krone in Munich for the February 2004 program.

Circus Arenas baby sea lions.

The four sea lion babies owned by circus Arena and trained by Addi Pedersen will perform in BonBon land this summer season. What is new is that they will not perform outside as usual but in a tent.

Circus Baldoni reports to circus Scandinavia that their second year on the road goes very well. Director René Marvin are already planning the season for 2004. A new winter quarter is found in Tureby 50 kilometers outside Copenhagen. Lots of space and room for the wagons.

Chinese artists cancel the Circus Princess

The Chinese artists Beijing Acrobatic Troupe are cancelling their visit in Sweden because of SARS. The artists comes from that area in the world with most SARS victims. They are not sick but they will not take the chance. The Beijing Acrobatic Troupe should have competed for the title world Circus Princess in Stockholm next week. The Circus Princess is a performance with only female artists arranged by Henry Bronett Director for The Great circus Scott in Sweden.

Clever sealions

On the Danish circus Benneweis news page the web master claims that the sea lions working with Steven Petersen can understand a wide range of different language. He is right and he is wrong because no animals understand the spoken words but they understand your tone, your behaviour and attitude. It makes absolutely no difference about it is Swedish or German. Try with your dog say - SIT and after that say – Setzen sie- same meaning as sit but in German. If you say that to you dog in the same tone and attitude the result will be that the dogs sits. Thats the secret about clever animals.

Hamburg or Vegeburg.

The German city – Hamburg – has been offering 10.000 Euro for changing the name of the city to Vegeburg. The reason is that the animal organisation – Peta – thinks that people compare the city with foot. The city council in Hamburg considers the offer as foolish.

Peta is a very active animal group in a lot of countries fighting for animal rights. That is absolutely okay but sometime they should consider their ideas if they want to be taken seriously.

Congratulations to Norway

May 17th is always a special day in Norway because it is there national day. So here from Circus Scandinavia we congratulates Norway.

Circus Raluy

The famous Spanish museum circus Raluy didn’t have the best start in Norway. Not because of the performance but because of the conditions of some of the circus wagons. The Norwegian police decided to escort the circus caravan and collected all the cars in Drammen west of Oslo. The police will decide how the circus shall continue the rest of the way to Oslo. Circus Raluy visit in Oslo will be in two different places. They will use the ordinary circus place by the Munch Museum but they will also be directly with the city hall in part of the period. How long time Raluy will be in Oslo is very difficult to find out but rumours said that they will stay in Oslo until mid July.

The Performance in Norway are arranged together with the local government in Oslo and the Spanish embassy.

More circus

There will be more new circus in Denmark this summer. Yesterday Circus Scandinavia wrote about the visit of Charlie Chaplins daughter and cirque Invisible. But there is more circus of the same kind to come. The Australian performers – Acrobats - will visit Denmark. The Schweiz performance Gopf presenting slapstick humour, dance and acrobatic. Circus by Charlie Chaplins daughter.

Charlie Chaplins daughter – Victoria Thierrée will be in Copenhagen as an instructor in the modern circus performance – Auréalias Oratorium. Victoria comes from the French Le Cirque Invisible but works as an instructor for her own daughter – Aurélla Thierrée. The performance will be in Kanon hallen June 25.

Elephant causes trafic jam

An Elephant from a circus in Philippines went out for a work after a performance in Manila. There is nothing wrong in that but when the work is on the motorway it causes a wide range of trouble. The keepers told the police that jumbo could smell a female elephant and because of that he just went out. The police stopped the Elephant by feeding him bananas.

Circus Krone fans in Scandinavia.

It dosen’t look good for the Scandinavian circus Krone Fans. The biggest circus in Europe will probably not go so far north as last year, where they were with the border to Denmark. If  you can’t control your self and you absolutely had to see this fantastic circus it seems that the nearest to Scandinavia is Bremerhaven, where Krone will perform from July 24^th until July 27^th. Krone is absolutely worth the trip and Circus Scandinavia can absolutely recommend a visit

Dates for Circus Rayul.

The dates for the Spanish circus Rayul in Oslo are now ready. They will be on the normal circus place in Oslo witch is with the Munch Museum. Rayul will stay in Oslo from May the 20^th until July the 15^th.

Circus Knie birthday

The Schwiez national circus celebrates there 200 years birthday on May 13^th. In Zurich.. There will be a lot of well-known entertainers in the performance  anda lot of people with some connection to the circus will be there. The performance is at 8 o’clock..

Kids Circus performance in Denmark

A long range of kids institutions in Hvidovre – Denmark. Perform an almost professional performance May 22nd. And May 23rd. The big top will be besides the Circus museum. The address can be found on the link page – Museums.

African elephants are not allowed

For some funny reason it is not allowed circus to perform with African elephants in Norway but only with Indian. In Denmark and Sweden there is an elephant an elephant no matter where it comes from and fully legal to perform. In Finland are both African and Indian elephants illegal to perform.

Hospital clown chocks patient

74 years old male died in Denmark because of chock caused by the local hospital clown. The man has always been afraid of clowns and when the head painted guy jumped out of a closet the old man died of a heart attack. The clown has been employed to raise the atmosphere on the hospital……..

Mayor assists magician.

The mayor in Assens – Denmark – Hans Ole Hansen was artist in a few minutes in Circus Dannebrog –Wedensday. Hans Ole was asked to assists the British magician Freddy Anthony with tie up a beautiful circus lady. Hidden behind a curtain a few seconds and the mayor lost his jacket and found it under the ropes on the lady.

Police and the political parti – Die Grunen – (The green) will confiscate one of Circus Renz elephants. In their opinion Circus Renz don’t have the necessary papers for the elephant.

How a mouse are going to be an elephant.

A few days ago Circus Scandinavia was writing about a lion keeper tragedy death in a Moscow circus. A few days later the newspapers heard about the attack but now the two lions was eaten up two keepers. In another paper the lions were running around in private gardens scaring local people to death after the keepers was eaten. The truth is that one of the keepers was killed by one of the animals and both lions ran out and was shoot. – But it always sells more papers if you lie a little.

Circus Arena hired.

The big circus Arena is hired for a special performance June 29^th in Ringe. Local people are trying to collect money for a new sports arena in the town. The ticket prices will be between 200 and 300 Danish Crowns (26 – 40 Euro). The locals hope that they can collect about 100.000 thousand Crowns (13227 Euro).

Merano musicians in eastern concert.

4 Musicians from Circus Merano in Norway played an eastern concert in the old Hareid church. Playing eastern morning, 2 polish eastern songs, Schuberts Ave Maria and finished the concert with – What a wonderful world. The artists and the circus workers were of cause invited to the concert.

Circus Sarrasani

A famous circus in Germany and unknown in Scandinavia are at the moment in Berlin. Circus Sassasani makes a fantastic performance, with lots of modern music. The performance is named Sensation and for people visiting Arena, Circus BonBon and Skratt in Sweden would have the opportunity to see Argentinian Devils and the reprice clown Mr. Chap again. Sarrasani stays in Berlin until May 18^th. Circus Scandinavia recommend Circus fans in Scandinavia to take the trip to Berlin to have a closer look.

Pio Nock.

One of the greatest clowns ever lived. He died a few years ago in the middle of a circus performance in Germany. Pio died in an age of 77. This wonderful clown could tell a lot of exiting stories about his career if he was still alive. But there is a official web page about Pio and his life. Vicky and the cats.

For those who saw the television serie from the Danish circus Dannebrog, must remember Vicky with the Cats. It was the girl where the cats run away several times. But there must be a few left because she works for the second year in a row in Circus Wictoria in Sweden.

Lion keeper killed.

A lion keeper in a Russian circus was Saturday killed by two lions, when he was feeding the animals. The lions ran out of the cave where the police was forced shoot both animals.

Light in the end of the tunnel

Maybe there is light in the end of the tunnel. When Poland enters the European union, the government and The Danish music union can’t prevent musicians from Poland anymore. And if they do it is illegal says a highly placed official in the government to circus Scandinavia. So maybe we can have real circus orchestras again in all the Danish circus.

The very nice russian barre artists in the 2002 summer tour with Dannebrog are this season performing in Austria with Circus Louis Knie. Like in Dannebrog they performs with two acts.

Phil Collins in Circus.

The world famous drummer, singer and actor, Phil Collins saw Circus Nock evening performance together with his son April 13^th. The Singer says that he was very satisfied with the performance.

Spanish circus in Norway.

The Spanish circus Raluy are visiting Oslo May 19^th on the normal circus place – Munch Museum. Circus Raluy is a historic circus with a historic performance in the old fashion style. The wagons are nicely restored and very nice. The prices are cheaper than the Norwegians are used to 220 Nkr. for loge chairs. My circus friend Cor Martens from Holland has seen the circus in Luxemburg and reports that the circus is very very nice and recommend the Norwegian to pay the circus a visit. After a period in Oslo Circus Raluy continues to Bergen on the Norwegian west coast.

Marianis

In my opinion the best clowns in Scandinavia in the 2002 summer season where they  worked in Circus Dannebrog .Denmark. The three Portuguese clowns are now in France on tour with the great Circus Pinder. Marianis do a traditional old fashion clown entrée with the clever white face and the two identical twins.

Circus Olympia

Herbert Bengtsson Director of Circus Olympia in Sweden has this year 4 animal groups out in different countries. One camel group is in Circus Finlandia in Findland and the other camels are with Mr. Bengtsson himself in Olympia. One horse group is in Circus Agora in Norway (See review on review page), One Horse group with his daughter in Circus Maximum (Sweden). The last horse group he got is of cause with Olympia – 6 black and white Tinker horses doing it very very well. The horses are very young and Herbert Bengtsson told Circus Scandinavia, that he worked hard with the horses this winter and now you can see the result. If you want to read about the whole performance you have to wait until May the first, where there will be lots of Photos, Video and a big review.

Jonny and Teddy

The two Italian clowns working with Circus Olympia in Sweden for the 2003 summer tour are very funny. Maybe because their family has been clowns in many generations. Their cousin do have a great success in Denmark, where he is travelling as a clown with Circus Benneweis – His name is Fumagalli.

Circus Merano

Has been elected as the best circus in Norway for the 2003 season. It is the Norwegian newspaper VG who has chosen Merano with the greatest performance this year.

It is very sad to hear that some Swedish circus friends?? Are giving assistance and know how to a foolish project in the circus building – Copenhagen. Further more it is sad to read that the Danish Circus museum is an active part in this crime against circus. I’m sure that the museum needs money but that they were ready to sell their soul is a big surprise. Where is all the real circus friends in this case ? Nobody, with just a little love for circus , would never come near this project. The circus building in Copenhagen is for circus or circus related entertainments, the reason why it is called a circus building.

In my fantasy I always hoped that circus would return to the building some day but now it is to late, the stables got to go and they will build a kitchen for the resturant….and many other new arrangements. But we can still do something because the bigtop are first going to be rebuild and destroyd for good in 2004.

Lets all work hard to throw out this new owner and work for the return of circus in this wonderful old building.

Fumagalli

Fumagalli and Glen Nicolodi both with Benneweis on summer tour 2003 can stay together after this summer because they are both signed to Cirque d´hiver in France. Furthermore are the clowns from Circus Maximum in Sweden – Rossyan signed to. A old well known artist the juggler Shirley Dean can also be found in France. The performance primiere is October 23th.

Circus BonBon

Circus BonBon will this year present Daniel Diorio´s Globe of death. This act was touring with Circus Arena in the summer tour 2002. If you are living in Sweden you can see this absolutely sensational act in Circus Skratt for a few month before they move to Denmark. Furthermore will the 6 dromedary, owned by Circus Arena be in bonbon land too. They should have been with Arena this year but for some unknown reason this decision was changed. 6 new horses from circus Arenas stables will be in BonBon and Arenas 4 sea lions will be in BonBon too. As before they will have their own show and this year they will perform in their own tent. The old expert Addi Jepsen trains the sealions.

Catana troupe and the Kosowiiks

Were together in Circus Finlandia last season, now they are both in Circus Arena for the summer tour. The clowns in Finlandia for the 2002 season – José Mitchell are not with them but still in Scandianvia, because they are touring with Circus Arnardo in Norway.

4 totally sold out performances in the weekend were the result for Circus Arena in Copenhagen. Benny Berdinos Circus are very successful and it looks nice for the summer tour in the rest of Denmark..

Circus Baldoni

Director René Marvin from circus Baldoni told circus Scandinavia today that the premiere on Bornholm, A little island south east of Denmark, went very well. The performance gave a very nice review in the local paper. We are looking forward to meet Baldoni in Copenhagen April 25^th. Circus building in Copenhagen.

The circus building in Copenhagen are in these days on its way to be more or less destroyed. Walmanns Saloons are the name of the Swedish company that in these days are tarring apart the building in the name of money. We don’t like the smell of horses said " Hasse Wallman" –the owner of the new resturant so the stables have to go because it is here we want to have the kitchen. . In a few days it is not possible to see circus anymore – in that circus that many older Danes saw circus at least one time a year. World class circus as Schumann, Benneweis and circus Mie was hunted out from this building because the rent was to high and because circus always will be a thorn in any politicians eye.

Any politician with a little respect for culture would never aloud any private restaurant to even come near the building. It is build for circus and a part of the Copenhagen history and it should mainly be used to circus, concerts, boxing or other public arrangement and it should never be rented out to a restaurant.

But most politician don’t like circus and at the moment they are working hard to destroy the small circus place in Copenhagen used for travelling circus. Please let circus have this last place in Copenhagen and don’t sell the ground - we all need some kind of circus. I’m aware that a wide range of politicians work in one but us ordinary people who don’t meet great clowns everyday – please let us keep the opportunity to go in circus a few times every year.

Really understand how to be mentioned in the Danish Papers. How they do it is unknown but Agnete Enoch who has the responsibility for the press in Circus Dannebrog, yes she is really worth her money.

Circus Scandinavia

Circus Scandinavia will from January 2004 release a Printed circus Magazine with 6 issues a year. The language will be English. The Magazine will be financed by announces and the Price will be – Nothing – You only had to pay for post and packing. The reason to this magazine is that Circus Scandinavia receives mails and post every day for companies who wants to have adds on "Circus Scandinavia web". I decided for long time ago that "circus Scandinavia web" should be absolutely commercial free, because in my opinion you cant receive money from a company you give a bad review. Because of that fact the "circus Scandinavia web" and "Circus Scandinavia print" will be completely separated.

"Circus Scandinavia print" will have corresponds in Italy, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Spain, USA, Australia and Canada – people we already have contacts to. But we still needs people in England, Ireland, Findland, Argentina and Russia. Many papers in Jylland write very nice reviews for the 2003 performance by Dannebrog. Dannebrog is the last of the major circus that circus Scandinavia hasn’t seen this year. But in a few days it isn’t the case anymore because Circus Scandiavia travels to Jylland to see the performance.

The famous Swedish horse back riders Susanne and Carlos Svensson are in Circus big Apple –USA –in the Apple circus 25th anniversary tour 2003. Furthermore there is the French reprise clown – Francesco know from several circus in Scandinavia. Katja Schumann from Denmark is in charge of the horses. With that line up the big Apple circus must be a success.

Kim Gannadi

The fakir in the Norwegian circus Zorba, survived the accident Friday, last week. It takes a few months before his ready and that stunt he made is out of his program. I never gone make that trick again –he says. The doctors in Trondheim where he was operated, says that Kim was extremely lucky. A penetrated windpipe and a bursted lunge was the result of the accident. Kim can’t remember so much from the accident but the audience will not immediately forget the performance

Stolen Lions and Tigers

8 lions and 2 Tigers was stolen last week from a German circus. The thief is an 40 years old woman and a 20 year old boy and son of the circus director. The animals and the truck have a value about 100.000 Euro. A few months ago there was a similar problem in Germany when an elephant was stolen and the police couldent find the animal. We hope this time that it goes faster.

Kim Benneweis

The great Elephant man – Kim Benneweis is not with any circus this year. After the break in 1996, with that circus he had been in since he was born, he was a few years with circus Arena. His last season with Arena was in 2001 were he performed with 9 Indian elephants rented by the Italian Togni family. It was a surprise that he wasn’t a part of the Arena 2002 season but he was with the Swedish Circus Scott. Not with elephants but as tent master. This year there is no circus that needs Kim and now he is working with other animals – Fish. Kim is now a trucker, driving with fish from Denmark to Italy and Spain. His brother Miller Benneweis is not in the business either. Who is going to take over Circus Benneweis after director Diana is an unanswered question because her two kids haven’t decided yet about their career. Nadia and Dawid are only with Benneweis in the weekends.

Cottle and Austen circus in England advertised for an assistant for their knife thrower. Only two girls reacted on the announce. 36 year old Kathy and 20 years old Michelle. Both girls says that they are looking for a special job and want to have fun. ??

Serious Accident in Circus Zorba

A Serious accident occurred Friday April 4^th under a performance in Circus Zorba - Norway. A Fakir troup -The Kims from Kazakhstan should bend a thick iron bar with his chest. But in a split second the bar went through his throat The Fakir manages to run out of the full circus before he fainted.

The accident was very serious because the artist was close to be suffocated in his own blood. As always in those situations the show went on. The Fakir will survive.

Benneweis primere in Hillerod April 3rd. 2003. Was very nice and the star in this Star time 2003 the Italian Super clown Mr. Fumagalli was absolutely the highlight this evening – Together with his older brother – Darix they did an absolute stunning performance.

Circus Scandinavia was there – of cause - and the fully review will be ready tomorrow April 5^th. Furthermore there will be lots of pictures from the performance.

BT gave the performance 4 stars out of 6. Nice performance but it needs unusual entrées and points out the Benneweis performance in 2000 called Clasic and new wave – and the 2001 performance – Super girls – with female artists only as better than this 2003 traditional evening.

Ekstra Bladet another big Danish paper wrote: Benneweis back on the top. And again it is Fumagalli who steals the headlines and the handstand artist Glen Nicolodi is pointed out too. Ekstra Bladet gave 5 out of 6 stars.

Chicky´s says goodbye.

It is over one of the greatest clowns troupe in the world says goodbye. A fantastic career is over they said goodbye in their last performance in Cirque éducatif in France. One of the reasons is that Eugene Altenburger (Chicky) are going to be 75 years in May. Bruno Stolz is 15 years younger and will continue his career – But it will be difficult - he says.

The Chicky history is long and very nice, 48 years together is a long time and lot of memories to look back on. They have met the greatest personalities in the World – Raymond Devos, Fernand Raynaud, Charlie Chaplin and they received an invitation from Prince Rainer to his private party.

Chickys has been in most major circus in Scandinavia –Zoo circus in 1957 Benneweis in 71, 78, 79, 84, 89, 92, 93, 94, 95 Merano in 1983, Scott in 1974, Maximum in 98, 99 and Brazil Jack in 1996 and in many many other European circus.

But now it  is over said Eugene Altenburger " I’m 75 years old so my last performance will be here in Sin-Le-Noble with Circus Éducatif.

Bruno will work with other clowns together with his wife.

Circus Stamps from Norway.

Two new stamps are released in Norway with circus motives. The Stamps are painted by The Norwegian artist Oscar Reynert Olsen. The Stamps have two values 5,50 Nkr. And 8,50 Nkr. - 0.73 Euro and 1,12 Euro.

The world famous Danish professional entertainer and gentleman thief – Kenny Quinn, has designed pocket thief secured trousers. Together with the firm POKER JEANS he has made trouses where it should be impossible to steal anything for the pockets not even with a knife. The trouses looks perfectly normal and can be used as normal.

He has been teaching the police in many countries so they could learn all the tricks and how the criminals works.

Day-care mummys have asked the community in Kerteminde for money so they can take all their day-care children in Circus Krone April 23th. We hope they will succeed.

Have signed a contract with the reprise Clown Gulio from Uzbekistan. His right name is Guliamov and his a very nice reprise clown. One of the best entrées he makes is the act with the egg legging rooster. It seems like, that Gulio can remote control the egg legging. Another act is where we have to imagine a car and Gulio invites people from the audience for a ride Guliamov makes all the sounds and movements. Last time we saw Guliamov in Scandinavia was in 1999 where he travelled with Circus Olympia in Sweden. For more information about circus Mascot see the Artist in Scandinavia page.

Freddie Steckel

The Danish Cascadeur are going to perform in Circus Maximum in Sweden for the summer tour 2003. The Steckels are not in the official Maximum program because the contract was first signed Wednesday the 26^th and the premiere for Maximun was Friday 28^th. Steckels was in circus Merano in Norway in 2002 and with the circus Theatre, Now circus Baldoni, in 2000.

At the moment Susanne Berdino, from Circus Arena in Denmark, is training 6 Friser horses for the Circus Skratt summer tour. The same horses can be seen in Circus BonBon in June until August where circus Skratt are closed

Lots of Snow in Norway

Snow and ice gave problems for Circus Merano before the primiere in Frederiksstad in Norway. Ice had to be removed from the circus place and 14 trucks was used to drive away the ice. The Ice on the place was 40 centimeters thick (16 inches).

Robert Berousek

The Famous Ladder acrobat and brother to the famous Mario Berousek (Maybe the worlds fastest juggler) is in Circus Agora in Norway for the summer 2003. Robert performs of cause with his ladder entré and this year with a juggler entre too. Robert was with the Danish Circus Arena in the 2002 summer tour. His Brother Mario is with Circus Krone in Germany.

The small but nice circus Madigan are ready for their summer tour. Madigan starts in Malmo Friday March 28^th at 18:00. On their Program this year is Jack Scholl Jackson, Paval and Daria from Lethland with a rollerskate entrée. Sebastiam from Hungary with a nice acrobat act. Brandszteter Grzegorz from Poland. The Dane in the fast lane, that’s what there, is written on the letters from Kim Kenneth –Maybe the greatest Magician and illusionist ever from Denmark. Last year in the 2002 summer season he was with Circus Nock in Switzerland and this summer he is going south again to the great Ostrich CIRCUS ELFI ALTHOFF-JACOBI. Monte Carlo Circus Festival.

Clowns, jugglers and almost allkinds of artists indvades in these days the annual circus festival in Monte Carlo, which gathers the world's absolute best circus performers. 28 acts from many different countries as Russia, USA, Italy.....will compete for the coveted golden clown award at the 27th international circus festival of Monte Carlo, a high point of Monarco's glamorous social calender.

The German Circus Barellis tent couldn’t hold back the enormous snow chaos in Nurnberg in south Germany. The whole thing broke down under the weight and two camels and a few circus workers were buried under the snow. Animals and workers were rescued and are okay.
