Tuffi is dead.

The 22 years old African Circus elephant, Tuffi, is dead. A absolute tragedy for this wonderful animal. After a period where Tuffi not have been working because of trouble with her leg and her stomach, she became ill and died 2 July.

The lab tests says that the cause of death was a salmonella poisoning. It’s scarring that such a small bacteria can kill an animal at that size.

The most sad thing is Tuffi’s sister, she is now working alone and will do the current season finish with the Danish Circus Benneweis. It’s absolutely not a good idea to keep elephants alone because elephants are herd animals and should be, as a minimum, kept together with other elephants. So what the owner and trainer Diana Rhodin will do after this season is unknown.

Diana Rhodin is a daughter of one of the greatest circus men in the world Mr. Trolle Rhodin , he was director of legendary Swedish Zoo Circus.
