This is the 23^rd. issue of the monthly free internet magazine. In those 3 years and since the start Circus Scandinavia has taken a lot of photos. Many of them have been bad pictures because of the circumstances in circus. There is often not enough light and the artists are running around in the ring making the life of the photographer hard. In the first year circus Scandinavia used a cheap digital camera and it couldn’t be used for indoor photos. Then we changed the equipment to a professional mirror reflex camera. The photos became much better because of the possibility to buy films with a high ISO value but it was too expensive. An 800 asa film is expensive and the development of 36 pictures cost a lot. Another problem was the flash. Lots of circuses don’t like flash and the animals don’t like a flash directly in their faces. Without a flash the pictures became to dark and with an even higher ASA the costs would be too high. Another problem was to scan all the paper pics so it could be used on the web page. If you do it yourself the quality is not good enough and if the photo dealer does the job it cost you money again.

The result was to buy a digital wonder with 5.1 million pixels. A nice camera with lots of possibilities but still not good enough. The picture was okay but without the mirror reflex cameras wonderful skills. The pictures inside was often shaken because of the long closing time that the camera should use in the dark of a circus. An ISO on 800 is not always enough when you don’t want to use a flash.

The end of the story is, if you want acceptable photos inside a circus you have to use professional cameras. If you want sharp pictures in the dark it is necessary to have the possibility to control lots of factors as closing time and changing the objects. Only those expensive cameras can give you all those possibilities and if you take photos as a hobby in circus lots of joy are in front of you.
